Pregnancy (Queens)
Updated over 6 months ago

Whether it was planned or not, pregnancy will bring a lot of changes for your cat (and you), but luckily you don’t have to change your cat’s diet as Marro welcomes all Queens to be.

During her pregnancy (just over two months), a mother cat has the same nutritional requirements as a growing kitten (because well, she’s growing kittens). This means lots of protein and calcium for growing tiny skeletons, and Marro exceeds the FEDIAF minimum guidelines for all nutritional requirements your cat needs.

You can expect Mum will be hungrier than usual and will require 25-50% more calories than usual, we can calculate the correct portion size for her if you need a helping hand (or paw). It’s best to feed lots of smaller meals as the pregnancy progresses, as her womb will press against her stomach making bigger meals harder to manage.

After Mum has given birth it’s best to allow for ab-lib feeding, so she can eat around looking after the newborns. During this time you might wish to supplement her diet with a kibble that she can access when she wants, because as the name suggests, fresh food is best served fresh.

It won’t be long before the kittens are ready for weaning and Marro is a great option for them as they move away from Mum’s milk, we have more information on kitten feeding in our Kittens help article.

We recommend always keeping your vet in the loop about your queens diet during pregnancy
