How Do We Calculate Your Cat’s Portion?
How Do We Calculate Your Cat’s Portion?
Updated over 6 months ago

We portion our meals to best suit your cat's lifestyle. Whether they've been neutered, if they’re a lavish lounger or an adventurous prowler, even with their weight goals in mind. Each meal size is purrrcisely portioned with your cat’s health and happiness as the top priority.

When determining the best portion size for your cat, we consider several factors to ensure the right balance of nutrition and energy. Here's how:

  • Age: Kittens require more calories and nutrients per pound of body weight compared to adult cats for growth and development, as well as to keep up with their chaotic, playful energy.

  • Body Shape: Whether they're svelte or a bit more voluptuous, we'll recommend portions to suit their silhouette.

  • Activity Level: For our adventurous prowlers and lavish loungers alike, we cater to their energy needs.

  • Neutering: Neutered cats require roughly 25% less calories to prevent unwanted weight gain so we make sure they receive just the right amount of tasty meaty gravy goodness for their needs.

We compare the information provided against our feeding guidelines, developed by our lead veterinary nutritionist. This expert is a professor in feline nutrition and chairs the Scientific Advisory Board of FEDIAF, the governing body that sets nutritional standards for pet food.

We recommend the pouch size that most closely matches your cat's daily calorie needs. However, if the portion exceeds 110% of their requirements, we'll opt for the next lower size - just to keep things balanced.

For example: For a 6.3 kg cat, the 180g pouch (2x 90g) would serve up 115% of their daily calories. Since that’s a tad indulgent, we recommend the 130g pouch (2x 65g), providing a more refined 83% of their daily needs. This minimises the risk of weight gain and overfeeding.

We strive for an ideal balance, ensuring each bite is tailored to your cat's health and happiness. If your cat's portion size falls below their daily calorie intake, it leaves extra room for their favourite tasty treats!

Should you feel the recommended portion is too dainty or too hearty, there's always the option to size up or down, just contact our Customer Love Team and they will adjust your plan at any time.
