Adding and removing a discount block to your email template

Encourage customers to shop again by adding a unique discount code to your campaigns and automated flows.

Add a discount block to your email template

๐Ÿ“ Note: An email Campaign is used in this help center guide for illustrative purposes. You can use follow the same steps to add merge tags to an Automation.

1. In your Marsello admin, go to Marketing > Campaigns > Email and click Create Campaign to begin editing your campaign template.

2. Complete the campaign settings form then click on the Edit email button on the right-hand side of the page.

3. In the email content builder on the right-hand side, select the Discount block to drag and drop it into the position you want within your email template.

4. Click into your freshly placed container block and select Add Content

5. Once you are in the email template content builder, on the right-hand side, click the discount content block and drag and drop it into your email template.

Your discount block button will now be displayed in your email template.

๐Ÿ’กQuick tip: Add a statement about your discount above the discount block to let your customers know what the discount is and get them excited to claim it. E.g. "Exclusive 10% Off. Just for you."

6. Click on the discount content block to adjust the following settings:

  • Text size - the button text size

  • Text color - the color of the button text linking to the product

  • Button text - edit the button text

  • Background color - the color of the button linking to the product

To adjust the Container Padding (how much empty space is around the button), double click on the content block to open the General settings menu

Edit the discount settings

1. Click on the discount content block in your email template. This will open a secondary editor. Select Click here to set the discount settings in the top right corner of the page.

2. Add the details of your discount:

Marsello will automatically create the discount in your POS and/or eCommerce platform after the customer has opened the email.

โš ๏ธImportant: The types of rewards that you can create depend on the POS and/or eCommerce that you have connected.

3. Select the type of discount you'd like to create

4. Enter the discount's details:

  • Title- the name of your discount

  • Discount amount - the discount amount that you want to offer

5. Click Advanced options to add extra conditions of use to your discount (optional)

  • Discount applies to - the entire order, selected products, or selected collections

  • Discount expiry - how many days the discount code is valid for once the customer has received the email

  • Requires a minimum purchase - select and enter the subtotal amount you want the customer to spend to be able to use the discount code

  • Terms - add any terms you'd like your customers to abide by when using their discount code

6. Click Create. Your discount will be added to your email template, ready for the customer to receive.

โš ๏ธImportant: Marsello's pre-build Automations come with a pre-set discount block. If you want to change one of the default discount codes in an automated email flow, first remove the discount from all email templates and then add a new one.

How it works - your customers' experience

When the customer receives the email, they will see your claim code/discount button on your email. Your customers can then easily click through to claim their unique discount code to use on their next purchase.


Once the customer has received the email, the expiry period on the discount will begin.

๐Ÿ“ Note: The customer's unique code will also automatically save to your POS integration (if connected). This will allow customers to use their discount code in-store or online.


Remove a discount code from an email template

Before you get started

Some key details to note before removing a discount code from an email template:

  • If the customer has already claimed a unique discount code from a campaign or automation before you update it, the code will remain valid and applicable for use.

  • If you would like to update a discount on your Automations, you will need to first remove the discount block from each email containing the discount in the flow.

  • There are two locations from which you can remove a discount from an email:

    • from the email template editor

    • directly through the content block


Remove the discount block setting from the email template editor

1. Open the email template that you want to remove the discount from and click on the Discount content block

2. Scroll to the top of the page, next to the discount information, click Remove

3. Click Yes, remove discount to confirm that you want to delete this discount from the email template.

The discount will then be removed from the email template.

Remove the discount setting directly from the email template

1. Click on the Discount content block

2. Click the trash can icon below the discount content block and the discount content block will automatically be deleted.

How to update a discount block from an email automation

๐Ÿ“ Note: If you wish to update a discount block for an email automation, you will need to first remove the discount blocks from each email in the automated flow and replace the blocks with updated ones.

1. In your Marsello app admin, go to Marketing > Automations and click edit next to the automation you wish to update.

2. Click on the pencil icon next to the email in the flow which contains the discount block that should be updated.

3. Select edit email

4. Click on the Discount content block

5. Click the trash can icon below the discount content block and the discount content block will automatically be deleted.

6. Repeat steps 2-5 for each email in the automation that contains a discount block.

7. Return to the first email in the automation that should contain a discount. Click on the pencil icon to open the email editor.

8. Select edit email

10. Click on the discount content block in your email template. This will open a secondary editor. Select Click here to set the discount settings in the top right corner of the page.

11. Add the details of your discount.

15. Click Create. Your discount will be added to your email template, ready for the customer to receive.

16. Click Save & Return to return to the email settings page. Click Save & Return again to return to the automation.

17. Click on the pencil icon for the next email in the automation that should be updated.

19. Click on the discount content block in your email template. This will open a secondary editor. Select Click here to set the discount settings in the top right corner of the page.

20. A popup will appear confirming if you'd like to use the same discount added a few moments earlier. To confirm click Re-use discount.

โš ๏ธ Important: Selecting "Create a new discount" will provide customers with a different reward and give them access to multiple discount codes from this automation.

21. Repeat steps 9-20 for each email in the automation that requires a discount block.

22. Once complete, click enable automation to set your changes live.


FAQs

Q. I've added a discount block to my email template, however, I don't want to use the default text on the button. Where can I update this?

A. If you'd like to update the default text on the discount block's claim to say something like "claim code" or "claim discount", double-click on the discount block in your email template. This will open a secondary email editor which will allow you to edit the text under the Button text field.


Q. When I add a discount block to an email campaign/automation will each customer receive their own unique discount code?

A. Yes, when you add a discount block to your email campaign/automation each customer will receive their own unique discount code upon claiming the code.


Q. Where do I access settings for a coupon code created in an email?

A. To access the settings of a coupon code in your discount block from your Marsello admin:

  • For campaigns not yet sent:

    • Open the email editor

    • Double-click on your discount block

    • In the discount block menu at the top of your screen, click View Reporting

  • For Campaigns Already Sent:

    • Navigate to the campaign's reporting

    • Select the Discounts tab
