Only the Account Holder can cancel policies in a MultiCar group.
Who can cancel a MultiCar policy?
Only the Account Holder can cancel policies within a MultiCar group. This includes cancelling:
Just one policy (e.g. if someone sells their car)
Multiple policies
The entire MultiCar group
If you're a policyholder (i.e. not the Account Holder), you'll need to ask the Account Holder to get in touch with us via live chat to process the cancellation.
What you’ll need to provide
To cancel a MultiCar policy or group, we’ll need the following details from the Account Holder:
Full name
Date of birth
Postcode
Registration plate of the car being cancelled
Policy number (if you know it)
The date you'd like the policy to end (either today or a future date)
The reason for cancellation
Whether any claims have been made or are intended
Please provide these in your message when you start the cancellation chat — this helps us process your request faster.
Cancellation charges and refunds
Cancellation fees depend on your policy type and how long the policy has been active:
When you're cancelling | Cancellation fee |
Policy hasn’t started or within 14 days of purchase | £30 admin fee |
Policy has been active more than 14 days | Standard cancellation fee based on your plan |
We calculate any refund based on a pro-rata basis, which means:
You only pay for the days you’ve had insurance
We subtract the cancellation fee from your refund (if applicable)
Note: If a claim is made on your policy at any point, you may be liable to pay the full premium even after cancellation. We’ll contact you about payment options if this applies.
Cancelling just one policy vs the full group
If you’re cancelling a non-Account Holder policy, the rest of your group can usually stay active — as long as there's still at least one other policy remaining.
If you’re cancelling the Account Holder policy, we must cancel the entire MultiCar group.
Example:
You cancel the Account Holder’s only policy → the whole group is cancelled
You cancel a single policy (e.g. a sibling’s) → the rest of the group stays active
Payment schedule updates
If you pay monthly, your payment schedule will update automatically after cancellation. This means:
Any future payments will be recalculated based on the new group size
You’ll see the updated schedule in your app or online account
Overpayments may be refunded depending on your policy activity
What happens after cancellation?
Your cover ends at 11:59 PM on the cancellation date you’ve selected
You’ll get a cancellation confirmation by email
If you're due a refund, it will be processed back to your original payment method within 7–10 working days
You’ll need to arrange new insurance if you still plan to drive the vehicle
