Why did my policy renew?

This article is for Marshmallow policyholders who want to understand why their car insurance policy renewed automatically.

Updated over a week ago

Your policy renews automatically

All Marshmallow car insurance policies are set to auto-renew by default. This is clearly stated in the Terms of Business Agreement that you agreed to when you first purchased your policy.

We do this to make sure there’s no gap in your insurance. Car insurance is a legal requirement in the UK, so auto-renewal helps protect you from accidentally becoming uninsured.

Key reasons your policy renewed automatically:

  • Auto-renewal is active by default.

  • Insurance is legally required in the UK.

  • Most UK insurers also auto-renew for the same reason.

We notify you in advance

Before your renewal date, we always send you an email that includes:

  • A link to view your renewal documents in the Marshmallow app.

  • Your new renewal price.

  • Step-by-step instructions on how to stop the renewal if you no longer want to stay with Marshmallow.

👉 Tip: If you didn’t receive the email, check your spam or junk folder. Make sure the email linked to your Marshmallow account is up to date.

Can I stop the renewal?

Yes — you can opt out of auto-renewal at any time before your renewal date through the Marshmallow app. The renewal email includes full instructions on how to do this.

If your policy has already renewed and you no longer wish to continue, contact us via the Marshmallow app chat. We’ll help you explore your options, including cancellation.
