No, once your policy has started, your excess amount is fixed and cannot be changed until your next renewal. This applies to both the compulsory excess, which is set by us and based on your risk profile, and the voluntary excess, which you choose when purchasing your policy.
Choosing your excess before purchasing
If you're using a comparison website like GoCompare or Compare the Market, you may be able to choose a voluntary excess amount when building your quote. Increasing your voluntary excess can reduce your monthly or annual premium—but remember, this will increase what you’ll need to pay if you make a claim.
Tip: Always choose a voluntary excess amount that you’re confident you could afford to pay if needed.
Why can’t I change my excess mid-policy?
We currently don’t offer the ability to edit excess amounts once your policy begins. This helps us keep pricing accurate and fair for all customers. If changing excess options becomes available in the future, we’ll notify customers directly.
