If your vehicle is currently in an impound, Marshmallow won’t be able to insure you.
Why can’t I get a policy if my car is in an impound?
Marshmallow policies do not cover impounded vehicles. This means:
We can’t help release a vehicle from an impound
We can’t insure a vehicle that is already impounded
We can’t backdate cover to help with vehicle recovery
When you buy a policy with Marshmallow, you confirm the following:
“Your vehicle is currently not impounded. If your vehicle is currently impounded by police or local authority, we will not be able to offer you insurance. You cannot use Marshmallow’s insurance to cover impound fees at any point during the policy.”
What happens if I buy a policy anyway?
If you purchase a Marshmallow policy while your vehicle is already impounded:
Your policy will be voided (cancelled as if it never existed)
You’ll receive a refund minus a £130 admin fee to cover our setup costs
You’ll still need to find a different insurance provider that offers impound release cover
What should I do instead?
To get your car out of the impound, you’ll need to:
Find a specialist insurer that offers impound release insurance
Provide proof of that policy to the police or the impound location
Once your car is released, you’re welcome to come back and apply for a Marshmallow policy — we’d love to help from that point forward!
