How do I pay for a policy change in the Marshmallow app?

This article is for Marshmallow customers who want to update details on their policy and understand how to pay for any changes.

Updated this week

If you make changes to your policy—like updating your address, swapping your car, or adding a new driver—there might be a cost involved. Here’s how payments work, whether you pay monthly or annually.

Paying for a change if you pay monthly

When you make a change in the app, you’ll always be asked to pay part of the cost upfront, and the rest will be spread across your remaining monthly payments.

If the change increases your premium:

  • You’ll pay an upfront amount straight away.

  • The remaining cost will be automatically added to your future monthly payments.

  • You’ll see exactly how much is due now, and how much will be added later, before you confirm the change.

If the change reduces your premium:

  • We’ll lower your upcoming payments evenly.

  • If there’s very little left to pay on your policy, we’ll refund the difference instead.

Paying for a change if you pay annually

If the change increases your premium:

  • You’ll be asked to pay the full difference upfront.

  • This is done securely in the app using your saved payment method.

If the change reduces your premium:

  • We’ll refund the difference straight back to your original payment method.

  • You’ll see the updated documents in your account once the change is complete.

Are there any admin fees?

  • If you're on a Lightest or Essential plan, most changes cost £25 as an admin fee. This is added to or taken from the premium difference.

  • If you’re on an Original or Plus plan, good news—there’s no admin fee.

Where can I see what I’ve paid?

You’ll find a full breakdown of any costs, refunds, or fees:

  • In the Motor Insurance Schedule in your account

  • Or in the app, once the change has been processed
