Can I list two jobs on my insurance policy?

This article is for Marshmallow policyholders with more than one job who want to understand how this affects their insurance.

Why do we ask about your occupation?

Your job title helps us work out the right level of risk and set a fair price for your insurance. Some jobs are seen as higher risk than others, which can change the cost of your cover.

If you have more than one job, we need to know about all of them so your policy reflects your full situation.

What counts as a secondary or dual occupation?

You may have:

  • A main job and a side job – for example, working as a teacher but also doing evening shifts as a chef.

  • Two jobs with equal hours – for example, splitting your time 50/50 between delivery driving and cleaning.

Both situations are classed as dual or secondary occupations.

How do we record your occupations?

  • If you have a main job and a side job, we’ll keep your main occupation listed, but your premium may be adjusted to include the risk of your side job.

  • If you spend equal time in two jobs, the higher-risk job will be listed on your policy to make sure your cover is accurate.

When do I need to update Marshmallow about my job?

Please tell us if:

  • You start a new second job during your policy term.

  • You change from one occupation to another.

  • You switch from having a main job with a side job, to working equally across two jobs.

This helps keep your cover valid and ensures you’re protected if you need to make a claim.

Will my price change if I add a second job?

Yes, it’s possible. If your second job is considered higher risk than your first, we may need to increase your premium so your policy fully covers you.

Key takeaway: Always tell us about all the jobs you do. Even if one of them is part-time or occasional, it can affect your policy.
