What is your cover abroad?
Essential, Original and Plus plans have a maximum of 90 days minimum legal cover abroad per policy term. Lightest have 30 days minimum legal cover abroad per policy term.
Minimum legal cover is the equivalent of Third-party only. That means injury and damage to another person/their property will be covered. But you won’t be covered for your own injuries, if your car is stolen or if your car is damaged.
Where can you drive abroad?
United Kingdom, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Where can't you drive abroad?
Albania, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, Israel, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Russia, Tunisia, Turkey, and Ukraine.
Can you drive abroad for business?
You are only able to drive abroad for SDP purposes(social, domestic, pleasure) and cannot drive abroad for business purposes.
Can I extend my cover past the 30/90 days?
Yes you can extend past either 30 days if you're a Lightest customer or 90 days if you're an Essential, Original and Plus customer. Any extension of cover will need to be agreed by us and you will need to pay an additional premium. If you exceed the total number of days permitted by your plan and do not contact us to extend it, we reserve the right to cancel your policy.
Can I upgrade my cover to fully comprehensive cover?
Yes you can upgrade to fully comprehensive when driving abroad. It comes at an additional cost which, will cover injury and damage to you and your vehicle, as well as other people. You'll need to discuss this further with the team.
Do I need anything else to drive abroad?
International Driving Permit
Under the new UK-EU relationship you do not need an International Driving Permit to drive in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein if you have a card driving licence issued in the UK.
However, you might need an IDP to drive in some EU countries and Norway if you have either:
A paper driving licence
A licence issued in Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man
GB Sticker
Under the new UK-EU relationship, all UK-registered cars will need to display a GB sticker when driving in any EU Country, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. UK-registered cars will not be required to display a GB sticker or symbol when driving in the Republic of Ireland.
You do not need a GB sticker if your number plate includes the GB identifier on its own or with the Union flag - however, if you're in Spain, Cyprus or Malta, you must display a GB sticker no matter what is on your number plate.
