What is mileage?

The mileage on your policy corresponds to the amount of miles you will drive in a year.

If you realise that you might exceed the mileage originally quoted, you can change this in your Marshmallow account.

In the event of a claim, we will check that all your details are still true, including your mileage - if you exceed your mileage, you may not be eligible to make a claim.

If you need to increase or decrease your mileage, you can change this through the Marshmallow app.

From the app's home screen:

  1. Tap your policy

  2. At the top of the screen, tap Update details

  3. Scroll down to Driving details and tap Edit

  4. Confirm which usage type you need for your policy and tap Continue

  5. On the next screen, you can adjust your annual mileage

Please note, if you are a Marshmallow Lightest or Essential customer, you may be charged a £25 admin fee to make a change to your policy.

More information about your mileage

During the quote process, we'll ask you to estimate how many miles you'll drive during the year. That's because someone spending hours on the road each day will be more likely to get involved in an incident than a driver who barely uses their car.

We know it’s difficult to be certain how many miles you will travel in a year, so we try to be flexible. But what's important is that your cover remains valid, so please update the mileage on your policy if your situation does change.

Please be aware that changing your mileage may impact your price. The price difference shouldn't be too high unless other factors are affected, so most customers prefer to over-estimate rather than falling short.
