How do I complete the ID Check?

This article is for customers who need to complete an ID Check before their Marshmallow policy can be activated.

Updated over a week ago

Completing your ID Check only takes a few minutes. You can do it in two ways:

  • By downloading the Marshmallow app

  • Or directly through your browser (on your phone or computer with a webcam)

You will also receive an initial email and reminders to complete the ID Check.

Step 1: Start your ID Check

  • After you pay for your policy, you’ll see a page asking you to verify your identity.

  • Choose whether to continue in the app or in your browser.

Step 2: Choose how to continue

  • If using the app, simply follow the on-screen instructions.

  • If using your browser, you can complete the check on your smartphone or on your computer (if it has a webcam).

  • If you prefer to switch devices, you can scan a QR code or send yourself a secure link to continue on your phone.

Step 3: Upload your ID document

You can use either:

  • A driving licence (front and back)

  • A passport (photo page)

Tips for uploading your document:

  • Upload a photo of the document (scans and photocopies aren’t accepted).

  • Make sure the image is clear, with no glare or parts covered.

  • Check the details are easy to read before moving on.

Step 4: Take your selfie

  • Use your phone camera, app, or computer webcam to take a live selfie.

  • Make sure your face is clear, with no glasses, hats, or anything covering it.

  • Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression.

Step 5: Review and submit

  • You’ll be shown a preview of your uploads.

  • If needed, you can retake or re-upload any images.

  • Once you’re happy, click Submit.

What happens next?

  • Your ID will be securely checked.

  • If everything’s approved, you’ll receive an email confirming your policy has been created.

  • Remember: you’re not insured to drive until your ID Check has passed and your policy start date has arrived.
