Do I need to pay a fee to make a change to my policy?

This article is for Marshmallow customers who are thinking about updating their policy details mid-term.

Overview of mid-term adjustment (MTA) fees

If you need to make a change to your policy after it has started—such as updating your address, vehicle, or adding a driver—this is known as a mid-term adjustment (MTA).

Depending on the type of policy you have with Marshmallow, you may need to pay an admin fee:

Policy type

MTA fee

Lightest

£25

Essential

£25

Original

£0

Plus

£0

The fee is automatically included in your updated premium and will be spread across your monthly payments if you pay in instalments.

How changes affect your premium

Any change to your policy details will result in a recalculation of your insurance premium. This means:

  • Your price may go up (e.g. if you move to a higher-risk postcode or add a less experienced driver).

  • Or it may go down (e.g. if you remove a driver or reduce your mileage).

  • Name, phone and email address changes do not impact your premium or have a fee.

Is the MTA fee ever waived?

In some cases, the £25 MTA fee may be waived. This depends on your circumstances and must be assessed by our team.

No Claims Discount (NCD) late submission fee

If you don’t provide proof of your No Claims Discount within 14 days of our request, we may:

  • Remove any NCD-related discounts

  • Charge a late fee of up to £25

Make sure to upload your documents as soon as possible to avoid this.
