Can I nominate a trusted person to help manage my car insurance policy?

This article is for Marshmallow policyholders who want to allow someone they trust to help manage their policy.

Updated today

Yes, you can nominate a trusted person—such as a family member, friend, or partner—to assist with managing your Marshmallow car insurance policy. This is known as adding a Third Party Authority (TPA) or nominee.

Adding a nominee means they can speak to Marshmallow on your behalf and request changes to your policy, within set limits.

What can my nominee do?

Once a nominee has been added and verified, they can:

  • Use live chat to request mid-term adjustments (MTAs), such as:

    • Changing the insured vehicle

    • Updating your address or mileage

    • Adding a private registration plate

  • Ask general questions and discuss the policy with Marshmallow

  • Help with day-to-day policy management if you’re unavailable or need extra support

What can’t my nominee do?

Your nominee cannot:

  • Cancel your policy without your explicit permission

  • Change the email address on the policy

  • Authorise any change that increases your premium by more than £200 without your consent

For any adjustments above £200, our team will contact you directly to confirm before proceeding.

How do I add a nominee?

To nominate someone:

  1. Contact our Customer Support team and let them know you’d like to add a nominee.

  2. We’ll ask for both your and your nominee’s full details (including names, dates of birth, postcodes, and contact numbers).

  3. We’ll then contact your nominee to confirm their consent.

  4. Once verified, we’ll confirm with you and update your profile accordingly.

You can revoke this access at any time by contacting us.

How is a nominee verified?

When your nominee contacts Marshmallow, we’ll ask them to confirm:

  • Your name

  • Policy number

  • Date of birth

  • Postcode

We’ll also verify the nominee’s:

  • Full name

  • Date of birth

  • Postcode

  • Last 3 digits of their contact number

If they can’t provide this information, we won’t proceed with the conversation for security reasons.
