Eligibility Rules for Provisional Licence Holders
To be added to a policy, provisional licence holders must meet all of the following:
Be 21 to 40 years old when added
If they’re the only person on the policy with a provisional licence, they can be over 40
Be a UK resident
Not have an excluded occupation or have had insurance refused or cancelled
Not be over 75 years old
Must not have passed their test in Albania or Romania (due to licensing regulations)
Driving Rules for Learner Drivers
To legally drive on a provisional licence in the UK, the driver must:
Display ‘L’ plates on the vehicle
Be supervised at all times by someone who:
Is at least 21 years old
Has held a full licence for 3+ years (from the UK, EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein)
Is qualified for the vehicle type (e.g., manual licence if supervising in a manual car)
Drive only vehicles without modifications
Are Driving Tests Covered?
Yes, but only if:
The driver is listed on the policy
They use their own vehicle (not an instructor’s or test centre car)
Costs and Coverage
A £25 fee applies on Lightest and Essential plans when adding any additional driver
Learner drivers have the same cover as full licence holders while following all provisional licence rules
