How does search work in Marvin?

Marvin has two complementary search types. Here's how to get the most out of each one, including tips for advanced keyword searches.

1️⃣ The global search bar

Accessible from any page via the bar at the top of the interface, it lets you instantly find a candidate, contact or company.

💡 This is the quickest way to access a profile you already know.

2️⃣ Search within each module

From the Candidates, Contacts or Companies list, you have a dedicated search bar that you can combine directly with advanced filters to refine your results (location, skills, tags, availability…).

💡 This is the search to use when exploring your database to build shortlists.

⚡ Keyword search operators

These operators work in both search bars.

By default: AND

Each word you type is searched for separately. The search returns profiles that contain all the words entered.

Examples:

  • sales london B2B → profiles containing "sales" AND "london" AND "B2B"

  • Transition Manager → profiles containing "Transition" AND "Manager" separately

Search for an exact phrase: quotes " "

To search for several words in this exact order, wrap them in quotes.

Example:

  • "Transition Manager" → only profiles containing this exact phrase

Exclude a word: the dash -

Place a - directly in front of a word to exclude it from results.

Example:

  • sales london B2B -B2C → profiles containing "sales", "london" and "B2B", but not "B2C"

OR — available in advanced filters

The OR operator is not available in the keyword search bar. However, it is accessible in the advanced filters on certain fields such as Job categories or Skills — a menu l

💡 Example: filter by job category "Developer" OR "Tech Lead" using advanced filters.

Bonus: the search tolerates typos. If you type "Manger" instead of "Manager", Marvin will first show results for "Manger" then similar matches like "Manager".
