Sometimes you might need to create a an item that's built using components from different vendors, or using various pieces that need to be sourced, but not necessarily shown to the client for approval. If you need to show the client a complete finished product without having them approve the nuts and bolts, you may want to create a component item. This lets you combine all the various parts and labor, and just show the client the finished product for approval. This feature is great for custom built items, or things like shower systems and fireplaces where the client won't end up seeing certain materials on the finished product. These can be built in your Design Library, Selections workspace, or right in the scope. This article steps you through creating the items in your SOW.

  1. Start by adding the item to your Scope

  2. Click into the line item and choose either 'Add multiple components' (great if you are dismissing selection or are estimating using placeholder items), or click 'Options needed' if you would like to build out an option for the client to approve.

When using placeholders or dismissing selection: add the components and then add in specific products. Make sure you are classifying each component with the correct item type! Any labor can be assigned to one of your vendors by clicking the orange 'Unassigned labor' icon.

When enabling selection: slot in products or simply add costing and quantities. Note that up to ten components can be added to a multi-component item.

Click 'Save' when you've added your components, and you will have the option of saving the item to the project or to the library. Once again,

you can also build out multi-components directly in your Design Library or from your project's Selections page.

Once you've saved your multi-component option, you can share it with the client. They will only be able to see the complete item, components themselves are not visible for individual approval, but once the top level item is approved, each component can go through procurement separately.
