How to enable selections

Introduction into selections in Materio

In Materio, some scope items are non-selectable, meaning the client does not make a decision about including them in the project. These might be line items such as "Dumpster", "Design fee", or "Frame new wall". Other scope items might be optional to include in the project, and may have an array of product choices for the client to choose from. These items are called selections, because the client will select something. Selections are typically design elements or finishes that require a client's approval and that will impact the project price depending on their decision. Line items such as "Backsplash tile", "Area rug", or "Sconces" are examples of selections. Here are the steps to enable selections on a particular item in your scope of work, so your client can approve a product for it.

Steps to enable a selection for an item:

1. Add your line item to the scope of work

In the scope of work, navigate to the category or location that you want to add an item to, and click "add item to..."

2. Name the line item, and determine the right category or location from the dropdown menu. If you're working in Category mode, you'll the location here, and vice versa.

βœ… Tip: when you're adding line items at this stage, you're thinking about the unspecified things that compose the scope, like a sofa, or a chandelier. Once your client approves options for those line items, your scope will include the specified products β€” this sofa and this chandelier. You can add the line items first without having products chosen yet.

3. Leave the green "Selection" enabled if the line item is a selection, meaning you're going to give your client a choice about it at some point

If you do not want the client to make a decision about it, you can disable selection by clicking the green button

4. This item now has a question mark icon which means it is a selection and will show up in your Selections workspace

5. Hover over the line item to add your product options

βœ… Tip: you can also click on the $0 to add in an estimated cost. This allows you to include that line item in your grand total before you know which product you'll land on. Once a product is confirmed, it will override the estimated cost and update your grand total.
