The key to getting the right amount of product on a PO is twofold: making sure the quantity on your line item is expressed in the same unit as the product's usage unit, and making sure the amount of product in a packaged unit (like a box or roll) is entered.

How this works

Let's take wallpaper sold on a roll as an example. You add a wallpaper product to a scope item, and calculate the amount needed for the project - regardless of how it's sold - using your linear ft marker. You'll take the measurements in square feet, and can then convert it to the units needed. In this example, the measurements have been converted to yards:

This indicates the scope item quantity — the total amount of wall coverage needed, period.

Now we'll go into our product options, and make sure the product's usage unit — how the wallpaper is sold and measured — matches our quantity's unit. In this case, yards:

Finally, we'll tell Materio how this product is packaged for sale – how are we buying these yards? You'll use the 'Sold by' drop down menu to choose the packaging type, and then input how much of the product, in its usage unit, is included. Here we've indicated the wallpaper is packed and sold by the roll, each roll containing 5.5 yards of product:

Now that Materio knows how much yardage is included on a roll, it can place the correct amount of rolls on a PO once the item is approved, and you can order your rolls!

Check out the example below for ordering product sold by the box

Example: Ordering boxed tile

Say you've measured an area of your project and found you need 150 square feet of tile. Your tile vendor sells the tiles in boxes, with a usage unit of square feet. You'll leave the quantity unit as square feet in your scope, and update the product's information as below:

This way Materio knows how much square footage you need for the project, and how many square feet come in a single box so it can calculate how many boxes to order.
