Materio offers the ability to generate a contract to be signed by the client based on the scope of work. Not only can you get a contract signed, but it can also include your firm's standard terms and conditions.

How to generate a contract:

  1. Open the project and go to the share button in the window's top right corner.

  2. Look for the CONTRACTS section of the menu and click "Draft"

  3. Select or create or new client as the recipient and choose the level of pricing detail. You have the ability to determine the level of pricing detail (per item, per category, or the grand total) and whether it's displayed by category or location. Note that this will automatically include the entire scope of work. You cannot exclude certain lines from the contract, unless you have scenario mode on your account, which allows you to temporarily hide lines.

  4. [Optional] Include a message to the client.

  5. Copy and paste your contract terms. 2025 update: on certain plans, you can now create contract templates where you can paste in your terms or agreement letter copy to use over and over. Go to Templates & kits from your main menu>contracts>create to get started.

  6. You can choose to have a PDF created or send for electronic signature

    1. You can download a PDF version of the contract to have 'wet signed' by selecting the "Download PDF" button all the way at the right.

    2. Send the contract to the client by selecting the "Send" button.

      1. You'll see if a brief, "Contract Sent" screen.

  7. You'll be prompted to sign the contract. Once you use your mouse, stylus, or finger to create your signature, you can send it to your client for them to review and sign. The client will receive and email with instructions on how to review and sign the contract.

What the Client Sees

Here's the email your client will receive:

They'll then have the ability to review the scope of work and sign the contract. Once signed, both the firm and the client will get a signed version emailed to them.

Materio will store any signed and un-signed contracts, which you can access by going to the Share button>Contracts>View contracts. The green check mark indicates that the client has signed the document, the yellow icon means they have not signed yet. Note that accessing the signed contracts is only available to the firm. The client cannot view and export contracts from within the project.
