šŸ”‘ Logging In: Get Started with Your SSO

To log in to Magma Math, visit https://app.magmamath.com/signin, and you can use one of the following SSO options:

  1. Clever

  2. ClassLink

  3. Microsoft

  4. Google

šŸ“ Note for Teachers: Check with your administration to find out which SSO option to use and if there are any specific instructions for logging in.

šŸ“š Class Syncing and Creation

  • If your school uses ClassLink or Clever for rostering, your classes will automatically sync with Magma Math.

  • If your school does not use ClassLink or Clever, you will need to create your classes manually.

šŸ« Creating a New Class

  1. Go to the Classes Tab: Navigate to the Classes tab in your Magma Math dashboard.

  2. Click New Class +: In the top right corner, click the New Class + button.

  3. Enter Class Details: Type in your class's name and grade.

  4. Click Create: Hit the Create button to finalize your new class.

šŸŽ‰ Congratulations! Youā€™ve created your first class!

When your students log in for the first time, theyā€™ll see an option to enter a class code. If they use the code generated during your class creation, theyā€™ll be automatically added to your class!

šŸ“ How to Create an Assignment

Assignments are at the heart of Magma Math! An assignment is simply a collection of problems that you give to your students or class. Hereā€™s a step-by-step guide on how to create and customize your assignments:

Go to the Assignments Tab: Click on the Assignments tab and then select the New Assignment button in the top right corner.

Choose Problems: Pick the problems you want to include in your assignment. You can select problems by book, chapter, and subchapter. Choose from any year or levelā€”these details wonā€™t be visible to your students.

Select Students: Decide which class, group, or individual students will receive the assignment. Youā€™re in control!

Set Other Options:

  • Allow Answer Checking: Turn this on if you want students to see the correct answers if they make a mistake.

  • Exam Mode: Enable this if you want students to complete the assignment without seeing answers or feedback until itā€™s over. Great for assessments!

  • Availability: By default, the assignment is available as soon as you create it and remains so until you manually archive it. You can schedule start and end times for the assignment if youā€™re planning ahead.

  1. Name Your Assignment: Give your assignment a name that will be visible to both you and your students. For example, "Multiplication Practice."

  2. Create the Assignment: Click Create to finalize your assignment.

šŸ”§ Need to Make Changes? If you want to edit, delete, or change which students get the assignment, click the three dots next to the assignment.

šŸ”„ The Heatmap: Get an Overview of Your Students' Results

The Heatmap is a powerful tool that helps you monitor how your students are doing on an assignment in real-time. Hereā€™s how you can use it to get valuable insights:

Access the Heatmap: Click anywhere on the white space of the assignment you want to review.

Understand the Heatmap Colors:

  • Green: Correct on the first try

  • Yellow: Correct after two or more attempts

  • Red: Incorrect answer

  • Eye Icon: The student has viewed the answer

  • Grey: Solutions havenā€™t been submitted yet

  • Number: Indicates how many times a student has submitted an answer

The Heatmap updates in real-time, so you can quickly see which problems are causing issues and which students need more help.

View Problem-Specific Results:

  • Click on the problem number box at the top of the Heatmap to see all student solutions and answers for that specific problem.

  • If anonymous mode is on, student names will be hidden, but you can still view their results. To hide results completely, click the checkmark icon to see all answers in blue.

Review Individual Student Performance:

  • Click on a studentā€™s name in the Heatmap to see their solutions and answers to all problems in the assignment.

Inspect Specific Solutions:

  • Click on an individual cell to see the solution for that particular student.

Playback Solutions:

  • In the bottom right corner, you can playback a studentā€™s solution. Use the pencil icon to solve the problem and the flag icon to report any errors.

šŸ› ļø Features and Tips for Assignments

As a teacher, you have several powerful tools at your disposal to manage and optimize your assignments effectively. Hereā€™s a quick rundown of the key features available under the Assignments tab:

  • Edit: Modify the content of existing assignments or redistribute them to different classes, groups, or individual students.

  • Archive: Move assignments to an inaccessible state for students while retaining their work. This is useful for keeping records without cluttering active assignments.

  • Solve: Work through the assignment yourself, making it a great tool for class discussions or walkthroughs.

  • Copy: Duplicate an assignment to easily assign the same content to other students or classes.

  • Copy Colleague: Share an assignment with a fellow teacherā€™s class.

  • Share with Students: Distribute assignments directly to students via a shareable link, perfect for integrating with platforms like Google Classroom.

  • Print: Generate a printable version of the assignment, complete with all included problems.

  • Change Topic: Organize your assignments by different categories or topics to keep everything neatly sorted.

  • Delete: Permanently remove an assignment and all associated results.

These features are designed to give you flexibility and control in managing your assignments, making it easier to tailor them to your studentsā€™ needs and track their progress effectively.
