Teachers can now track their students’ progress in different math skills over the course of the school year. Every assignment in Magma is categorized by the skills it assesses. In the Progression tab, you can easily see which skills your students have mastered and which ones they still need to work on. The data is based on both the exercises you assign and the tasks students complete in Practice mode.

A skill is considered mastered when a student scores at least 50% on the last five tasks linked to that skill. Keep in mind that a student can lose mastery of a skill if they score less than 50% on more than half of those five tasks.

How to check the skills your students have mastered:

  1. Select a class from the upper left corner.

  2. Go to the Progression tab.

Skills are organized by Grade, Standard, and Skill.

When you open the Progression tab, you’ll see the grade levels the class has been working on. Note that these grade levels reflect the difficulty of the skills, not the students’ actual grade. If a class has been working on a particular grade level, only that grade will be displayed. To the right of each grade level, you’ll see the percentage of mastered skills within that grade.

Click on a Grade to see the standard and the percentage of skills students have mastered.

Click on a Standard to see the percentage of skills mastered.

Click within a Standard to see which specific skills are associated with it and what percentage of students have mastered each skill.

Tracking individual student progress: You can also view individual student progress for the current school year:

  1. Select a student from the upper right corner.

  2. Choose Grade, Standard, and Skill to see which what the student has mastered.

When a student masters a skill, the circle will turn blue. If a skill is not yet mastered, the circle will remain unmarked. You can also see the percentage of skills a student has mastered within a given grade, standard, or skill.
