What is a DIM Factor?
A DIM factor is a specific number that shipping carriers use as part of their formula to calculate dimensional weight. Sometimes called the DIM divisor, the DIM factor varies based on the carrier and the shipping method.
When shipping items, carriers take into account both the weight and size of the package. The DIM factor is used to determine the dimensional weight of a package, which is then compared to the actual weight of the package. The higher of the two weights is used to calculate the shipping cost.
Mayple's DIM Factor
At Mayple, for international shipments, the DIM Factor will be 2500 cubic millimeters/lb or 5000 cubic millimeters/kg. If the package exceeds 2500 or 5000 cubic millimeters for every pound or kilogram of weight, respectively, we carrier will use the dimensional weight to calculate the shipping cost.
It's important to note that if you use Mayple packaging, these will be optimized for the DIM factors based on the products included in each order. This means that you can trust that your packages will be efficiently packed to minimize dimensional weight and save you money on shipping costs.
