Can I use a skin toner?

Traditionally, toners were alcohol-based liquids used to remove excess oil from the skin, and were especially "useful" for people with acne. Conversely, alcohol-based toners tend to over-dry the skin and cause irritation, subsequently damaging the skin and making it more susceptible to acne bacteria.

The newest generation of toners are now alcohol-free (such as this one from Neutrogena, Witch Hazel toners, and Tea Tree Oil toners), and are generally considered "safe" for people with acne-prone skin.

Witch Hazel and Tea Tree Oil are plant-based compounds both proven to have anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory effects, and they are included as natural boosters in the MDacne products.

If your main concern is removing all of your makeup at the end of the day, another good option is to use oil-free face wipes designed for sensitive skin, which you can find at most drugstores.
