In Measure Studio, understanding the difference between Publish Date and Data Period filter can help you analyze your content more effectively. Here’s how each filter works:

Publish Date

The Publish Date Filter refers to the exact date and time a piece of content was originally published to a social platform. This is fixed and doesn’t change.

Example: If you posted a video to Instagram on March 1st at 3:00 PM, the Publish Date is March 1st.

You can filter by Publish Date when you want to analyze:

  • How your posts performed over a specific time frame (e.g., posts published in the last 30 days)

  • Content trends based on when things were posted

Data Period

The Data Period Filter refers to the range of dates in which performance metrics (like views, likes, comments, etc.) were collected for a post—regardless of when it was published.

Example: Let’s say you want to see how your top-performing posts did during March. You might look at the Data Period from March 1–31. This will include any content (no matter when it was published) that received engagement during that time.

You can filter by Data Period when you want to analyze:

  • Overall performance within a time frame (e.g., how all content performed last week)

  • How posts continue to perform over time

In short:

  • Publish Date = When the content was posted

  • Data Period = When the performance activity occurred

Both filters can be useful for different types of analysis, and Measure Studio lets you switch between them depending on what insights you’re looking for.
