If you're monetizing accounts on Facebook, you've probably noticed some changes in your earnings dashboard. That’s because Meta recently transitioned to a new content monetization model, and it’s impacting how your earnings are calculated and displayed.

Let’s break down what changed, how these revenue metrics work now, and how Meta's calculation issues may be affecting the numbers.

Quick Overview: What’s New vs. What’s Old

Facebook used to break earnings into several buckets under an older model. Now, most Pages have switched—or are in the process of switching—to the new Content Monetization model.

When your Page moves to the new model:

  • Some older monetization metrics stop updating entirely.

  • New metrics become available, but some data may look slightly off due to differences between Meta Business Suite and their API.

  • You’ll see a new earnings section called Content Monetization Earnings.

Use This Diagram to Understand It All

Here’s a visual breakdown of how earnings are grouped, what’s still active, and which areas are affected by Meta calculation issues:

Your Monetization Buckets

Your total earnings come from a combination of buckets. Here’s how they work in the old and new models:

Old Monetization Model

(These stop working once your Page switches to the new model)

  • Instream Ads

  • Ads on Reels

Always-On Monetization (Still Active)

These earnings types continue to work whether you're on the old or new model:

  • Subscriptions
    Recurring monthly revenue from fans.

  • Stars
Viewers send you Stars during lives or on-demand videos—each Star equals real money.

  • Live Ads
Ads shown during Facebook Live streams.

  • Bonuses
Limited-time programs Meta offers to reward creators.

New Monetization Model: Content Monetization Earnings

Once you opt in, your Page gets access to a new earnings dashboard with these categories:

Meta API bug - data not being returned

We're constantly monitoring the Meta API for fixes and/or changes. Please note that while earnings reporting in Meta Business Suite vs Measure Studio might be slightly different, your actual payouts are still accurate behind the scenes.

What You Should Do

  1. Know which model you’re on.
If your earnings for Instream Ads or Ads on Reels suddenly stopped, you’ve likely been moved to the new model.

  2. Use the Content Monetization Earnings section.
This is your new go-to place to understand what you’re making from Videos, Reels, and more.

  3. Don’t stress over the small discrepancies.
The numbers may look slightly off in Measure due to Meta’s API issues, but your earnings are safe.
