Use the tag import template to add large numbers of tags at once including multi-level parent and child hierarchies without creating them manually one by one.
How to Import Tags
Click your profile photo in the bottom-left corner.
Select ‘Import Data’ and open the ‘Post Tags’ tab
Click ‘Download our Tag Import Template’
Fill in the template (see below for how to structure it)
Upload your completed file and confirm the import
Tags are created immediately after confirmation.
How to Structure the Template
Each column in the CSV represents one parent tag and its children.
The column header is the parent tag name
The cell below contains all child tags for that parent, separated by commas
Important: Rename each column header to your actual parent tag name before importing. If you leave a header as "Parent Tag A", the system will create a tag literally called "Parent Tag A" and nest all the child tags under it.
Building a Multi-Level Hierarchy
You can create deeper hierarchies by having a child tag in one column become the header of another column.
For example:
Cuisine | Italian | Pasta |
Italian, Mexican, Chinese | Wine, Pasta, Dessert | Carbonara, Cacio e Pepe, Bolognese |
This creates a three-level structure: Cuisine is the top-level parent, Italian is a child of Cuisine and a parent of Wine, Pasta, and Dessert, and Pasta is a child of Italian and a parent of Carbonara, Cacio e Pepe, and Bolognese.
Only tags that have children need their own column — tags without children only need to appear in the cell of their parent's column.
Things to Watch Out For
Don't leave column headers as "Parent Tag A" — rename them to your real parent tag names before importing
No extra spaces around commas — use
Italian,Mexican,Chineserather thanItalian, Mexican, Chinese
