The current 3M Littmann range of stethoscopes is made up of 14 different models and knowing which one is right for your needs as a GP, nurse, surgeon, paramedic or any other type of healthcare professional can be tricky.

Each model is designed with a specific use, and user, in mind. Below is a brief overview of each model in the Littmann range and which professions it is most suited to.

Littmann Classic III

The current "industry standard" stethoscope, the Littmann Classic III has both an adult and paediatric side. Both sides have tunable diaphragms, allowing the user to fine tune what they are listening to by increasing or decreasing the pressure they use,

The Classic III is the perfect choice for a first stethoscope for medicine students and is also often used by GPs and nurses due to its adaptability.

The one-piece diaphragms are easy to clean with just an alcohol wipe and a 5 year manufacturers warranty means that the Classic III will last through most of medical school and probably beyond.

Suited for: Students, Nurses, GPs

Littmann Classic II SE

The Littmann Classic II SE has now been completely discontinued and replaced by the Littmann Classic III.

The Classic III is designed to last longer, be more durable and give a better sound quality than the old Classic II SE.

Littmann Cardiology IV

The Cardiology IV is the latest model to be released by Littmann and has been designed from the ground up to offer superior sensitivity, infection control properties and versatility.

The chestpiece has both adult and paediatric sides and can be converted to an open bell for lower-frequency sounds.

All parts are 100% latex-free and can be wiped clean with an alcohol wipe without damage.

The Cardiology IV stethoscope comes with a 7 year warranty from the date of purchase.

The Cardiology IV comes with free access to the Littmann Learning App, worth £49.

Suited for: Advanced Students, GPs, Emergency Medics, Paramedics, Cardiologists, Child Specialists

Littmann Cardiology III

Before the Cardiology IV came out, in 2016, the Cardiology III was the standard stethoscope bought by emergency doctors, paramedics and cardiology specialists. This was due to its sensitivity to the high-frequency sounds that help to diagnose heart problems.

Like the Cardiology IV, this model has both adult and paediatric sides, making it suitable for child specialists, as well

There is a 5 year warranty on the Cardiology III, so if it becomes damaged, you can have it repaired.

The Cardiology III comes with free access to the Littmann Learning App, worth £49.

Available Colours:
3128BRASS - Black & Brass Finish

Suited for: Advanced Students, GPs, Emergency Medics, Paramedics, Cardiologists, Child Specialists

Littmann Master Classic II

Littmann Master Cardiology

The single-sided chestpiece of the Master Cardiology makes hearing cardiac sounds easy.

Littmann Electronic 3100

The Electronic range of Littmann stethoscopes represents a step-change in technology.

All Electronic Littmanns amplify sounds up to 24x and reduce ambient background noise by up to 85%, making them perfect for the hard-of-hearing.

At the touch of a button, you can switch between diaphragm and bell modes, allowing you to select high- or low-frequency sounds at will.

Suited for: Hard-of-Hearing, Paramedics, Emergency Medics, Cardiologists, Child Specialists

Littmann Electronic 3200

The Electronic 3200 is a step up, again, from the 3100. In addition to all the features of the 3100, this model also comes with a Bluetooth dongle and Zargis StethAssist software to connect your stethoscope to a computer.

The 3200 has memory for 12, 30-second recordings build-in, which can be played back either through the stethoscope or transferred to a computer via the Bluetooth dongle.

It also features a small LCD screen which displays heart-rate and charge level.

Suited for: Hard-of-Hearing, Paramedics, Emergency Medics, Cardiologists, Child Specialists, Respiratory Specialists

Littmann Infant

Designed to be used on neonatal patients, the Littmann Classic II Infant range has both a tunable diaphragm and open bell side which are smaller than any other stethoscope in the Littmann portfolio.

This small size means that a good acoustic seal can be made with the patient which improves the transmission of sound to the user.

The diaphragm and open bell are both non-chill to enhance patient comfort.

Littmann's Infant range comes with a  3 year warranty on materials and manufacturing.

Suitable for: Child Specialists, GPs, Paediatric Nurses

Littmann Paediatric

Similar to the Infant model, the Littmann Paediatric has a smaller chestpiece than standard, though not as small as the Infant. This makes it perfect for use on children, very thin patients and in difficult to reach areas.

The diaphragm and open bell are both non-chill to enhance patient comfort.

Littmann's Paediatric range comes with a 3 year warranty on materials and manufacturing.

Suitable for: Child Specialists, GPs, Paediatric Nurses

Littmann Lightweight Nursing

The Lightweight Nursing stethoscope from Littmann is designed to make general assessment, such as taking blood pressure and basic auscultation, as easy as possible.

The unusual shape of the chestpiece allows easy movement around the body and aids in blood pressure measurement.

While not as acoustically sensitive as other Littmann stethoscopes, the Lightweight Nursing range is a good choice for many nurses and practitioners with a tight budget.

The Lightweight comes with a 2 year warranty on materials and manufacturing.

Suitable for: Nurses

Littmann Select

With a single-sided chestpiece, the Select range is easy to use for a basic assessment, being easy to grip securely.

A tunable diaphragm allows the user to switch between listening to high-frequency sounds, such as cardiac sounds, and low-frequency sounds simply by adjusting the pressure you use.

Unlike the Lightweight, the Select is made of metal which makes it slightly more durable and the shape of the chestpiece funnels the sound more directly through the tubing.

The Select comes with a 2 year warranty on materials and manufacturing.

Suitable for: Nurses

Littmann Veterinary

The main benefit of the Veterinary stethoscope is the extra-long tubing, which allows it to be used further from the head, which is a useful feature when assessing large animals such as horses.

With the same chestpiece as the Master Classic II, the Veterinary stethoscope has the same excellent sound quality.

The Veterinary comes with a  3 year warranty on materials and manufacturing.

Suitable for: Vets
