Example exercise programme for metabolic syndrome
Updated over 3 years ago

We have put together this example template for a week of home-based exercise based on current recommendations for managing metabolic syndrome. It includes a mix of aerobic exercise and resistance training. Most importantly, make sure you always prioritise time for exercise and try to make it fun! While you are exercising always visualise and remember the health benefits that come from this activity.

If you are new to resistance exercise, begin very moderately and do not be alarmed if you get sore in the days following exercise. This is totally normal and will happen less as your body gets used to resistance training.

Video instructions for the following exercise programme are available here.

Also remember to consult with your doctor before beginning any type of exercise programme and check they think it is safe.

Top tips:

  • Pick the activities you feel will be most enjoyable and start moderately. Remember, your body will adapt to exercise and it will get easier and easier as you do it more often.

  • Skipping is a great aerobic exercise but it takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it. This will pay off, as 10-20 minutes of skipping is equal to 1 hour of jogging and you can skip almost anywhere and all you need is a rope!
