When you leave hospital after your surgery, you may be wearing a knee brace and using crutches. Your operated leg should be completely non-weight bearing at this stage.

The below process will help basic swelling management post-surgery for a meniscal repair. Any exercise undertaken should be done whilst wearing the knee brace and should be non-weight bearing at all times.

  • Rest – rest your leg when not undertaking strengthening exercises

  • Ice – 3-4 x/day for 15-20 minutes to help reduce swelling (always protect your skin)

  • Compression – wear a compression stocking all of the time

  • Elevation – whenever seated position your leg above hip height if possible
