If you're using Kit to deliver your welcome emails in MV, you may find yourself asking a few of these questions:
Should I have ONE welcome sequence?
How do I make sure people don't get too many emails from me?
How do I prevent my members from being added to an automation more than once?
This article shares our best practice tips for handling your welcome emails between MV and Kit.
Tip 1: Create ONE welcome email/sequence per paid/free product.
Having one welcome sequence per Product or Offer in your MV account allows you to tailor your messaging most specifically to what your members have signed up for. If you need a sample template that you can customize for each welcome email, check out this swipe file.
Tip 2: Have your members complete your nurture welcome sequence first before they begin receiving your regular newsletter.
This tip is primarily for you if you're planning to send a welcome series of emails (as opposed to just one welcome email), AND you have a regular newsletter that runs multiple times a month.
You may feel concerned that your new members may be overwhelmed by too many emails from you, or you may want new members to focus on the welcome emails before they consume your regular content.
If this is you, you can create one tag that adds members to your main newsletter, and one tag that lets you know which product they've been added to in MV. Set up your welcome email automation, and at the end of this automation, add a step to tag them with your main newsletter tag.
Tip 3: When you add members to your welcome sequence in Kit, configure your settings in Kit so that people can only go through this sequence once.
By default, all Kit sequences are not repeatable. This means your subscribers will be able to receive that Sequence's emails only once, even if they get added to it multiple times. We recommend keeping this default setting in place unless you make major changes to your welcome sequence and want your current members to be able to receive these emails again.
Heads up! If you're using Kit's Free Plan, you will not be able to use their Visual Automation or Sequence features. You can still send Email Broadcasts to your members, but you're not able to automate a welcome email.
