How to Add an Upsell or Tripwire to Your MemberVault Products or Offers

We highly recommend adding additional revenue opportunities to your products and offers in MemberVault.

This not only increases your potential order value (aka how much someone spends with you in this purchase), but it can also be an incredibly supportive buying experience for your people!

Learn more about upsells here (and a tripwire is essentially the same thing, it's just offered after someone signs up for a free product/offer).

How to add this to your products/offers in MV

MemberVault offers two main approaches to implementing upsells: post-purchase on the sign-up confirmation page and pre-checkout bundled options. The method below focuses on sign-up confirmation upsells.

  1. Log into your account. Not sure how? Look it up here.

  2. Go to Content > Product or Content > Offers (depending on where you want to add your upsell/tripwire)

  3. Choose the product/offer you want to edit, and click the edit icon.

  4. Scroll down to Sign Up Confirmation, and that's where you'll add your upsell/tripwire info.Note that when using the sign-up confirmation page for upsells, buyers will need to complete a second, separate checkout process. This two-step process ensures the primary purchase is complete before introducing an additional offer, but it means that a seamless 'one-click' upsell isn't possible with this method.


Here's some template copy for you to use to get started:

Welcome to [product name]! Before you get started, here's a special offer to help you [benefit of adding this on to the thing they just signed up for/purchased].

When using the above copy, or writing your own, remember to link to the special upsell or tripwire offer on both the text and the image, so it's easy for someone to take action.

If you'll ONLY offer it in this one place, you can add "one time offer", but I prefer to follow up with people a few times. I'm not looking to pressure them into a buying decision, but instead create a flowing, supportive sales experience. Alternative Approach: Pre-Checkout Upsells If you prefer offering upsells before the initial purchase is finalized, you can:

  1. Add an additional pricing option to your checkout page that includes your upsell product bundled with the main offer.

  2. Use MemberVault actions to tag the buyer based on the pricing option they select, helping you assign access to the appropriate products or send follow-up notifications. This approach simplifies the purchasing process for buyers interested in the upsell, allowing them to make their selections in a single checkout.
