AI, like humans, can carry inherent biases. But at Mercu, we take active steps to limit their influence and ensure fair, transparent hiring processes.
First, AI is never allowed to make final hiring decisions. While it can support recruiters by scoring or flagging responses, it cannot reject, progress, or offer a candidate on its own.
Second, we believe in transparency and context: every AI-generated score is shown alongside the full, unedited candidate response, enabling recruiters to apply their own judgment.
Third, our scoring is based exclusively on text transcripts. We do not process audio tone, visual appearance, or metadata about the candidate - such as name, gender, race, or age - unless this information is explicitly shared in the candidate's own words.
This helps reduce the risk of unconscious bias creeping into evaluation criteria. While no system is completely bias-free, we continuously monitor and test our prompts and scoring logic to improve fairness and consistency across all candidate assessments.
