Blast campaigns are single-content block messages that are typically used to communicate something urgent and time-sensitive. Unlike other campaign types (e.g. onboarding, training, engagement), Blast campaigns don't require the recipient to reply with "GO" in order to view the content.

Example use cases for blasts are SOP updates, urgent announcements, and reminders. But the sky (and your creativity) is the limit.

Steps to create a "blast" campaign

To create a Blast campaign, please follow these steps (or watch the video below)

  1. Login to Mercu and head to the campaign homepage via the sidebar.

  2. Click on the "New Campaign' button at the top right-hand side of the screen.

  3. Select the 'Blast' objective and create a campaign from scratch.

  4. Create and submit the message for review to Meta (see below for why).

  5. Wait for Meta's approval - we'll send you an email (typically within 15 minutes).

  6. Enrol recipients into the campaign.

If you have an urgent "blast" campaign that you need to get out and you're not getting approved in time, reach out to us via Intercom.

Adding media files to a Blast campaign

You can also add one media file (.png, .jpg, .pdf, .mov) per Blast campaign. Simply click on "Add attachment" and upload your media file.

Why do Blast campaigns need separate approval?

This is due to how WhatsApp for Business works. Every business-initiated conversation needs to start with a Meta-approved template message. All non-Blast campaigns start with a Mercu-provided and Meta-approved template message. Hence, there is no separate approval needed.

However, because "blast" campaigns are single content block messages, we can't add our Mercu-provided and Meta-approved template message before your Blast campaign. That's why your Blast campaign message needs separate approval.
