Creating a Local Sandbox from an SQL Server Configuration Guide

This document explains the steps required to configure a local sandbox from an SQL server. For additional information about what a “sandbox” is and when to use one click here. Prior to creating a sandbox environment, we strongly recommend the user back up their production data.

Steps to set up a local sandbox from an SQL server

  1. Open Toolbox in an SQL Server configuration.

  2. At the top of the main Toolbox palette, hover over “Help” and select “Browse to Factory Data."

  3. Navigate up one folder by selecting the “up” arrow (see below).

  4. Create a Copy of the folder containing the Factory Database, Work Orders, etc… Name the copied folder “Sandbox Local."

  5. Enter the “Sandbox Local” folder -> enter the “Factory Database” folder.

  6. Delete the database called MicrovellumFactory.sdf.

  7. Restart Toolbox > Select “Manage Configurations."

  8. Copy the SQL Server Configuration and rename it to “Sandbox Local."

  9. In the main Toolbox palette, select the “Toolbox Setup” tab and select “Options."

  10. Select the “Utilities” tab > Select “Transfer Tables” > Select the radio buttons “Transfer to SQL CE" and “Factory Database” > Select “Transfer” (see below).

  11. Observe the “Browse For Folder” window will appear.

  12. Enter the Sandbox Local Folder (created in step 4) and select the “Factory Database” Folder > Press “Ok”. Wait until the process is completed.

  13. Start Toolbox in Sandbox Local configuration.

  14. Select “Toolbox Setup” > “Options."

  15. Select the “Data Access” tab and select the SQL CE radio button.

  16. Select the “Utilities” tab and select “Change Path to Microvellum Data."

  17. Select the “Sandbox Local” folder and press the “Select Folder” button.

The sandbox SQL server configuration is now complete and ready for testing.
