This article discusses the various ways Micovellum Software Products can be licensed including Floating, Perpetual, and Subscription licenses, and the benefits of 2-activations (non-concurrent use). Find more information about Microvellum Software Licensing in our End User License Agreement.

Floating License

Microvellum floating keys provide the ability to maximize the use of your software licenses by ensuring they can be used for a greater percentage of the workday. For example, if your company needs four users to have access to Microvellum, but all four seats rarely need to be used simultaneously, you may purchase floating keys for three seats. Those three keys allow three users to access the software simultaneously. If one user stops using the software, the key is checked back into the key management system and then becomes available for a fourth user. This results in more efficient use of the seats you have purchased by making sure they are used for a greater percentage of the workday.

NOTE: The installation process for the software licensed with a floating key is the same as a non-floating key. The difference is the type of key supplied. If you purchase a floating key after the installation is complete, Microvellum will supply you with a new serial number containing the new floating key type to reactivate your software.

Floating keys require an internet connection. Without it, you will see a message saying the license server cannot be found, and then the software times out and shuts down if the connection is not restored.

As of version 15.6.1912 or greater, it is now possible for a company that has lost internet access to continue using floating keys. The user requests an override and re-activates for the duration of this emergency. A key is checked out from the key management system for the length of time specified by the override and enables the software to be used without internet access. At the end of that override time period, the user must either reconnect to the internet to continue using a key, or the software shuts down.

If one of the companies needing this ability should encounter such an emergency, they should request it from their Account Manager. Microvellum product fulfillment personnel will generate the key and send it to the user. The user will need to follow the instructions provided in the activation email.

NOTE: The floating keys may be used for either a single local configuration, multiple local configurations, or an SQL Server installation.

Subscription License

Customers have up to one activation at any one time.

Trail License

Authorized distributors of Microvellum software may provide trial authorization codes to individuals interested in evaluating Microvellum Software to see if it will fit their needs as designers, drafters, and/or manufacturers. Trial Users are such individuals or entities provided with a trial authorization code that allows them a limited license to use the Microvellum Software without any required payment of money or the promise of future payment.

The Trial User license is valid for a period of 30 days from the time the software is installed and activated with the authorization code.
