What is a Full vs. Limited Membership?

Full memberships provide access to your entire Network, while limited memberships offer access to a limited set of Spaces and features. Whether someone is a full or limited member depends on what their plans give access to.

Limited memberships allow you to offer a standalone experience—such as a course, live event, or lead magnet—inside a single Space or bundle of Spaces, without granting full access to your Network.

By restricting access to Network-level features like private messaging, the Global Feed, or Global Members, you can:

  • Keep your broader community gated, exclusive, or reserved for paying members.

  • Use Spaces as entry points to introduce new people to your work without opening up the entire Network.

  • Sell individual programs or experiences, while keeping your full community experience separate for those who join a higher-tier plan.

Limited Members

Limited members only have access to one or more Spaces.

Limited members can:

  • View and interact with the features enabled inside their Space(s) (e.g. Feed, Events, Course, etc.)

  • Have full profiles, including streaks and custom fields (if enabled)

  • Search within their Space(s) only

Limited members cannot:

  • Access Global Features like Discovery, Members, Events, or Feed (if those are enabled in the Network)

  • Use Network features like private messaging or sending recognitions

Someone becomes a limited member by joining a plan that only includes access to one or more Spaces, as long as they do not have access to the Network through another plan.

As a note: A limited member will not be able to leave the last Space they are in—if they want to leave all Spaces, they will need to deactivate their account.

To create a limited membership, go to Admin > Plan List > + icon choose to include only a Space or Spaces:

Full Members

Full members have access to your entire Network.

Full members joined the Network via any one of these methods:

  • A plan that includes access to the Network

  • An invite to the Network if it is set to Invite-Only

  • Joining the Network if it is set to Anyone Can Join

Full members can:

  • Access all of the Global Features and navigation experiences in the Network that you’ve enabled

  • Take all actions enabled at the Network level, including sending private chat messages, recognizing other members, completing the Welcome Checklist, attending global livestreams, and inviting via the Ambassador Program

  • See and find all other Spaces in the Network have been designated as visible

  • Join all Spaces in the network with access set so that Anyone Can Join, and are automatically joined into any Spaces that designated as auto join (with the option to leave these Spaces)

Full members can be members of more than one plan that includes the Network, and they can also join plans that don’t include the Network. As long as they have access to at least one plan that includes the Network, they remain a full member.

Important note: If you set your Network Privacy & Access settings to “anyone can view content inside the Network,” these definitions may shift because a limited member can see what a visitor/non-member sees (e.g. Collections with Spaces that anyone in the Network can see, promoted Spaces, etc.).
