What you need to know about action items

This article explores action items, which, when identified correctly, are the tasks and projects that improve Drivers and ultimately the Most Important Number. Specifically this article examines:

  • How action items improve the Most Important Number

  • The link between action items and Drivers

  • Identifying "impactful" action items

  • Best practices on creating and updating action items

Because most people are extremely busy, action items are often taken for granted. Confusing being busy for being productive is a common challenge that the MIND Methodology™️ helps correct.

Don't confuse being busy with being productive

Action items are the tasks and/or projects you complete in order to improve the Most Important Number. Though action items are sometimes captured during MIND Meetings, the most impactful actions are within Drivers.

The biggest challenge is often identifying which actions are the most impactful. Resist the urge to immediately capture the first tasks that come to mind. This is what the Sales Team did in the example below.

After working on these action items it became clear to the team that while these tasks did need to be completed, there were not going to have the greatest impact on the Lead Conversion Driver. After careful consideration, and using the description of what a perfect 10 looks like for Lead Conversion as a guide, they came up with the following.

Be intentional when creating action items. Decide as a team which actions will have the greatest impact on the Most Important Number. Completing the right actions, in the right order at the right time improves the Drivers, which improve the MIN.

Watch this tutorial for a more detailed exploration of action items within the MIND Methodology.
