What you need to know
This article introduces Action Items, specifically including:
Accessing the Action Items Drawer
Identifying where Action Items originated (personal, meetings, Drivers)
Identifying if Action Items are Active, Completed, Recurring, or Delegated
Identifying the components of an Action Item
Recognizing when an Action Item is overdue
Key terms
Action item: Action items are specific tasks designed to improve the most important number. There are three components to an action item;
A clearly defined deliverable
An assignee responsible for completion
A due date
Action Items Drawer: This is where you access all of your action items. The drawer is personalized to the individual meaning you only see Action Items assigned to you, and Action Items you have assigned to other people.
Making it happen
Action items are found in meetings, Drivers, or in the Action Items drawer, which is accessed using the Actions tab in the navigation bar. You only see action items assigned to you in the action items drawer.
When in the Action item drawer, you can tell where the action originated using the Type icon
The steering wheel icon indicates the action item originated in a Driver
The calendar means the action is part of a meeting
The person icon is a personal action item only seen by you in the action item drawer.
Regardless of where they originate, Action items are either:
Active: this is the default state and are actions you are currently working on
Completed: once checked as complete they are only visible in this tab
Recurring: for tasks that repeat on a regular cadence. See the Pro-tip below for a detailed explanation of recurring actions
Delegated: This tab shows Action Items you have assigned to someone else
You can only create personal Action Items in the drawer. Personal Action Items are automatically assigned to you and only visible in the Action Items Drawer.
In meetings, action items are listed in chronological order by due date below the agenda topics. Within a meeting, you see all Action Items created during the meeting regardless of who they are assigned to. Action items carry forward from meeting to meeting until they are completed. Overdue Action Items are designated with the red triangle.
Action Items are also listed in chronological order in Drivers. You see all Action Items created in a Driver regardless of who they are assigned to.
If you have an overdue Action Item (personal, in a meeting or in a Driver) a red dot appears above the Actions tab.
