Alignment, decisions, and accountability

MIND Meetings optimize your team’s time together by providing the structure and support for the basic tenants of the MIND Methodology™ including:

  • Alignment on what is most important

  • Deciding where to focus limited time and resources to create the most value

  • Personal and team accountability to the end result

Key terms

  • The Most Important Number (MIN): The Most Important Number is the one Key Performance Indicator, above all others, that measures the success of that Plan. It aligns the team to a common outcome. The MIN is visible on the main Plans page.

  • Driver: Drivers are the categories of work that can be leveraged to improve the MIN. Drivers represent all the work your team can do and is where you make decisions on what work to do to improve the MIN.

  • Action item: Action items are specific tasks designed to improve the most important number.

  • Discussion Point: Discussion points are where team members enter information within each Agenda Topic.

Elements of the MIND Meeting

The standard MIND Meeting consists of the Check-in and Improving what's most important. Preparation for both elements is critical.

Checking-in

The Check-in is where you share information and get updates from the rest of the team. It is approximately 25% of the MIND Meeting. Prepare for the Check-in by entering your Discussion Point the day before the meeting. The standard check-in template consists of:

  • Biggest Win: generate positive energy by celebrating professional or personal success

  • What this team needs to know to make better decisions: Break down knowledge silos and share information to get results

  • What I need help with: Don’t assume the team knows what you need, intentionally ask for it

By checking in prior to the meeting, everyone is up to speed and ready to hit the ground running. This keeps MIND Meetings efficient and focused on improving the Most Important Number.

This video demonstrates adding a discussion point to a MIND Meeting

Update any action items that you are working on before every MIND Meeting including adding notes and updating the progress percentage. This is essential to being accountable for doing the right work, in the right order, at the right time as outlined in this video.

The majority of the MIND Meeting is spent on improving what is most important. First, the team agrees on the current priorities and then defines the substantive work to achieve them. This segment of the meeting is spent on the Drivers as demonstrated in this video.
