Written by Tom Higgs

How to change or set the Default Pick Location

By default when a product is initially created it won't have a default picking location set, it is advised to have a default picking location for every product. To change or set the Default Pick Location for a product manually, please do the following:

  1. Click Products then Overview.

  2. Find the Product you want to update.

  3. Click Actions then Manage Inventory.

  4. Within the Default Picking Location section, select the new location from the drop-down.

  5. Click Update.

This will transfer any stock from the existing Default Pick Location to the new location.

Note: To change the Default Pick Location in bulk, please review our uploading default picking locations in bulk help guide.

Update the Default Pick Location and transfer unassigned stock

When updating the Default Pick Location, it's possible to also transfer any stock held in an Unassigned location as well. To update the Default Pick Location and transfer unassigned stock, please do the following:

  1. Click Products then Overview.

  2. Find the Product you want to update.

  3. Click Actions then Manage Inventory.

  4. Within the Default Picking Location section, select the new location from the drop-down.

  5. Turn ON Transfer Unassigned Stock To New Default Location.

    • If the product has stock booked in with batch information, serials or best-before dates, this will need to be transferred manually.

  6. Click Update.

This will transfer any stock from the existing Default Pick Location and transfer any Unassigned stock to the new location. Changing the Default Pick Location will not transfer any stock that is allocated to existing orders or in any location other than the previous Default Pick Location. Stock in any other location would need to be transferred using the transfer inventory function.

Adjusting Warehouse Settings

If you encounter issues with unassigned stock during the ASN (Advanced Shipping Notice) process, consider the following:

  • Enable Allow Unassigned Locations in Warehouse settings to permit booking.

  • Delete the ASN, correct stock by booking out incorrectly booked-in items, and re-add the ASN with correct location assignments.

Transferring Stock Using the Transfer Inventory Function

To transfer stock from unassigned or other locations to a specific location:

  1. Go to Warehouse → Transfer Inventory (via mobile app or web).

  2. Select or scan the current location (choose "Unassigned Location").

  3. Select or scan the product and enter the quantity to transfer.

  4. Choose the destination warehouse or location within the same warehouse.

  5. Confirm the transfer and optionally add a comment. If the product uses batches, serials, or Best Before Dates (BBD), include these details during the transfer.
