Overview
If you charge for fixed location spaces in your warehouse (pallet/pick bin/pick shelf), location-type charging is the correct storage method to set up on the system.
Note: You must have Locations and Location Types set up before continuing.
Location type charging
Location type charging means the system raises one charge per Location ID allocated to the client where there's at least one unit of stock held in it. Whether there's 1 unit or 10,000 units in the location, only one charge gets raised for the selected period. If multiple products are allocated to the location, only one location charge applies.
Add location type pricing
Once you've established location types, you can set up location-type storage prices. You can create either a default rate for ALL clients, or individual rates for specific clients. To add a location type storage price:
Click 3PL Accounting then Overview.
Click Location Type Storage Prices.
Click Create.
Select the Client or leave as ALL.
Choose the Location Type.
Enter a Cost.
Select the Frequency to charge.
Click Create.
Configure client setup
After adding the location type storage price, configure the client for this type of charging:
Click Clients then Overview.
Find the client you want to edit.
Click Actions then Edit.
Click the Storage Costs tab.
Select the Storage Cost Frequency.
This must match the frequency entered in Location Type Storage Prices.
Select LocationTypeUsage as the Storage Type.
Turn on Automatically Calculate & Invoice Storage Costs according to frequency.
Click Save.
Monthly based pricing
If you charge your client monthly, the system analyses locations allocated to the client on the 30th of each month to raise the storage charge.
For clients with frequent movements in and out throughout the month, we recommend using Daily charging and adjusting monthly prices to equivalent daily rates. This ensures accurate storage charging throughout the month.
Example: Β£10 per pallet per month becomes Β£0.33 per pallet on a daily schedule.
Storage cost frequency
Ensure you have pricing set up for all location types based on the frequency set at client level. If you have monthly pricing rates but the client frequency is set to daily, this results in Β£0.00 charges being raised.
Check storage breakdown
To check current locations assigned to the client and their rates:
Click 3PL Accounting then Overview.
Click Calculate Current Storage.
Select the Client and Warehouse.
Select LocationTypeUsage as the StorageCalculation.
Click Calculate.
This provides a breakdown of all locations currently allocated to the client and their respective rates, alerting you to any location types without rates set up.
