To change Wi-Fi-network or password you follow these steps

Changing Wi-Fi configuration is similar to installing a Point from scratch. No data is lost when you update Wi-Fi settings.

  1. Open your Point list
  2. Tap the Point device you want to change Wi-Fi settings for
  3. Tap on “Settings” in the top right corner
  4. Towards the bottom you will find “Update Wi-Fi settings”
  5. Follow the instructions in the app

How do I reinstall my Point?

When you reinstall Point, all data connected to the device is lost.

  1. Open your Point list
  2. Tap the + sign in the top right corner
  3. Follow the instructions in the app

Your old device is automatically removed from your account.

Wi-Fi Network requirements

The distance between your Point and your router can affect the signal strength which in turn can affect the battery lifetime of your Point. The longer the distance, the more power is required by Point’s antenna to connect to your router.

Point will only work on a 2.4GHz network. All routers on the market today supports 2.4GHz, but not all support 5GHz. Many modern routers offers both options simultaneously. If this is the case, it is important that Point can see and connect to the 2.4GHz network. Sometimes these networks use the same name (called SSID). If you have trouble connecting your Point, it may help to change the name of one of the networks so that Point can find the 2.4GHz network specifically.

Firewall settings

Point relies on DHCP for IP assignment (which is enabled by default on all residential routers) and will send outgoing traffic on TCP (destination port 25500) and UDP (destination port 1988). It does not currently support networks with proxy servers, WPA2 Enterprise-secured wireless networks, WPS configuration or networks using statically assigned IP addresses.

Known problematic routers

While rare, we are aware that Point may not work as well with the following routers as intended. In most cases, Point takes unusually long to connect to the internet.

  • AVM Fritz!Box 7560
  • Tilgin HG2381-EU (Bahnhof branded)
  • Tilgin HG2501-EU (Bahnhof branded)
  • Netgear Nighthawk R7000
