At a Glance: ChatPad is designed to bridge the communication gap by providing instant, high-accuracy transcription for face-to-face dialogue. Use this guide to optimize your setup for doctor appointments, customer service interactions, or daily conversations.

1. Quick Start: Launching Live Transcription

To begin a real-time assisted conversation:

  1. Open the ChatPad app on your mobile device or tablet.

  2. Tap the Transcribe button at the bottom of the interface

  3. Tap the Microphone Icon at the bottom of the interface.

  4. Ensure your device has permission to access the microphone.

  5. ChatPad will begin transcribing spoken words into text immediately.

2. Optimizing for Accuracy (The "Mid-Point" Rule)

For the best results in a two-way conversation, microphone placement is key.

  • The Position: Place your device on a flat surface between yourself and the other speaker.

  • The Distance: Aim for a distance of 2–4 feet from the person speaking.

  • Noise Reduction: In loud environments (like a cafe), point the bottom of the phone (where the primary mic is located) toward the person speaking.

3. Customizing for Readability

If you are using ChatPad to "read" a conversation, you can adjust the interface for better visual clarity:

  • Increase Text Size: Go to Settings and use the slider to increase font size for easier reading at a distance.

  • High-Contrast Mode: Tap color and toggle Dark Mode or High-Contrast to make the text pop against the background, reducing eye strain in bright environments.

4. Privacy and Sensitive Conversations

Accessibility often involves private matters, such as healthcare or legal discussions.

  • On-Device Processing: ChatPad prioritizes your privacy. Your live transcriptions are processed securely, ensuring that sensitive conversations remain between you and the person you are speaking with.

  • No Permanent Logs: You can choose to delete the conversation to ensure no data is stored on the device.

5. Tips for the "Hearing" Participant

To ensure the AI captures every word accurately, share these quick tips with the person you are communicating with:

  • One at a Time: The technology works best when one person speaks at a time.

  • Natural Pace: There is no need to shout; speaking at a natural volume and pace allows the ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) to process context more effectively.
