Mac Keyboard Spacing Issue / Extra Periods

If you notice unexpected periods appearing in your dictation on a Mac, a macOS keyboard setting may be causing the issue.

Written by Team Mobius

When the "Add period with double-space" setting is enabled, macOS automatically inserts a period whenever it detects two spaces. This can sometimes interfere with dictation and result in extra periods appearing in your text.

How to Disable This Setting

  1. Click the Apple menu  in the top-left corner of your screen and select System Settings (or System Preferences on older versions of macOS).

  2. Select Keyboard.

  3. Click Text Input (or Text on older versions of macOS).

  4. Locate the setting "Add period with double-space".

  5. Turn this setting Off.

Once disabled, try dictating again to see if the issue is resolved.
