Under some circumstances, the results of your dictation can take longer than a few seconds to appear. There are three common sources for this delay and in many cases, you can fix them quite quickly!

1. Use a WiFi network instead of Cellular

Cellular networks can introduce significant latency when streaming audio from your device. The fastest results will be achieved when you are connected to a WiFi network with good upload and download speeds. To test your connection using our in-app network quality utility, please, check out this article.

2. Use the device microphone instead of a Bluetooth headset

Encoding the audio signal is fastest when we receive data from the device's onboard microphone. If you utilize an external Bluetooth headset or microphone, sometimes, depending on the device, extra steps are required to transform the audio into the correct format, which can introduce delays. Try switching to the onboard microphone to see if it improves your speed (simply disconnect from your Bluetooth microphone or headset within the device settings); if it doesn't improve the speed of your results, the source of the latency may be your internet connection, instead.

3. Use a Conveyor USB device instead of Conveyor QR

Finally, if you follow the above steps and still experience delays, it's possible that your desktop or laptop computer that's running Conveyor QR doesn't have a reliable connection. If this is the case, try running a speed test on that computer and share the results with your IT department to see if they have suggestions for improvements.

Another option is to utilize a Conveyor USB device instead of Conveyor QR to eliminate the need to communicate with your desktop or laptop computer over the internet. With the Conveyor USB, dictation results are transferred directly from your iOS device to your computer. You can read more about the differences between the Conveyor USB device and Conveyor QR here.
