How can I avoid unnecessary Gem spending?

Know when to render, trim, restore or finish, and when to pause paid attempts.

Before buying a new take, check whether your existing footage can do the job. Review the quote for each action before confirming.

Choose the action you need

  • Shorten an existing clip: open its player → Trim → choose the portion to keep → Save trim.

  • Use a better earlier take: open Versions → Browse earlier renders → Restore, if that version is available. Restore is free and returns its script, clip and trims together.

  • Create different footage: review Script, Cast and Location, then check the quote for Render this scene / Re-render this scene.

  • Assemble the episode: use Preview episode, then review Finish episode.

What does finishing cost?

As of September 26, 2026, standard Finish episode costs 0 Gems, including its default score and captions. Optional HD finish is separate. Choosing Compose the score / Recompose the score on demand is also separate; it is not required just to get a default score at Finish. Check the quote shown in your app because prices can change.

Applying a pack, drawing a reference and rendering a scene are different actions. A free pack does not include free scene renders.

When to pause and ask for help

If a technical failure repeats, or the same mismatch remains after you have checked or corrected the setup, pause paid attempts and keep the existing work. You do not need to buy another take before asking for help.

Stay in your current support conversation, or open Profile → Support. Tell us the affected scene, what happened and what you already tried. A screenshot is optional. For a charge review, explain what the charge was for and what went wrong.

Only a Mochi team member or the support lead can approve a Gem return or goodwill grant. Neither a new render nor a technical repair guarantees a credit.

For current action costs and budgeting examples, read How Gems Work. See Restore an earlier scene version for restoration details.
