Create and finish your first Mochi episode

Go from an idea to a finished episode, with links to the full MochiTV Creator Guides.

Create episodes in Mochi’s Coach chat. The steps below happen inside the Mochi app. Fin is the support assistant: it can answer general support questions, collect issue details and connect you with our team. Fin can also share brief documented recommendations for common issues reported by previous users; these are general tips, not a confirmed diagnosis. Coach handles scene revisions and creation inside Mochi. Fin cannot write, build, render or add scenes, or provide custom rendering advice from this support conversation. Send story ideas, scene details and character references to the Coach chat for your series inside Mochi.

Start in Mochi → Create → Start a new series. Describe your idea in the in-app Coach chat, then build the episode one scene at a time. To continue existing work, open that series from Create and use its Coach chat.

How many scenes do I need to publish an episode?

You need at least 3 rendered scenes to finish an episode in Mochi. Scenes 1, 2 and 3 must all have completed renders. An episode with only 1 or 2 rendered scenes cannot be finished or published through this workflow.

You can create and preview a single scene while working. Preview episode does not publish it or bypass the three-scene minimum. Build and render the remaining required scenes before choosing Finish episode.

Extra scenes are optional. If you add them, do not leave an unrendered gap before a later rendered scene. A public series also needs a poster before finishing.

1. Plan one clear scene

In your series’ Coach chat inside Mochi, explain who is present, where the scene happens, the main action or exchange, and how it should end. Ask to review the proposal before rendering. For examples you can adapt, see Scene Creation Guide.

2. Check Script, Cast and Location

Open the intended scene in the correct episode. Review Script, Cast in this scene and Location together. Inspect the selected character images and looks. Writing an outfit name in Script does not select that look automatically. The updated scene editor supports up to 6 characters and warns above 3 because keeping faces distinct becomes less reliable. Coach proposals may still start with up to 3; add others in the editor. This limit is per scene, not the whole series.

3. Render and watch

Read the displayed Gem quote, then choose Render this scene. Wait for it to finish and play the whole clip with sound. A render creates new footage; a completed render does not guarantee that every creative detail matches your intention.

4. Keep or improve the take

  • Shorten it: scene player → Trim → Save trim.

  • Use an earlier take: Versions → Browse earlier renders → Restore, if available. This returns its script, clip and trims together.

  • Change the performance: revise the existing scene’s Script or use Revise with AI, review the result, then decide whether to purchase a Re-render.

If a technical problem persists after checking or correcting the setup, pause paid retries and ask for review. You do not need to buy another take to get support.

5. Preview and finish

Use Preview episode to check scene order, transitions and audio. Score lets you review the music and its status. A Sound pack gives musical direction; it does not create a track by itself.

Music is opt-in in the October 9 update. Newly finished episodes have no background music unless you choose it through a Sound pack, Score, or a request to Coach. Ask Coach to Add music for the free Finish-time music choice, or ask for no music on this episode. Existing finished episodes keep their audio.

Standard Finish episode costs 0 Gems. Optional HD and on-demand Compose the score / Recompose the score remain separate paid choices. Check the displayed quote before confirming. Music is not automatically included in every new episode.

For a public series, Finish publishes the assembled episode. Watch the completed result. Uploading an already finished video through Mochi Lab is a separate upload and review workflow.

6. Edit a finished episode

Choose Edit episode → Reopen. For a public series, the published version stays live until you Finish again. If you made no changes and Close · no changes is offered, use it to return to the finished version. Follow any reopening-limit message shown.

Keep creating

The full Start Here guide includes a checklist and more examples. Explore packs and Gem costs, or learn to download an episode and delete or discard a series.

If something goes wrong, stay in your current support conversation or open Profile → Support. Start with the affected series, episode or scene and what happened. A screenshot is optional. Join the Mochi Discord for optional bug updates, rendering tips and community discussions.

Keep edits and target the right scene

The update protects typed script drafts and improves how Coach targets corrections. Always open the intended episode and scene before editing. If asked Keep your script edits?, choose Save to keep them. Saving a change to an already rendered scene can require a new paid render; it does not make rerenders free. Review shortened dialogue on the proposal before approving.

To continue an unfinished episode, open that draft from the series. Switching to an existing draft is different from reopening a finished episode. If work still disappears or a correction targets the wrong scene, stop paid retries and send the affected series, episode and scene in your support conversation.

Language and locations

Choose the series dialogue language under Edit series, or tell Coach the language you want. Typing in a language does not select it automatically. Earlier rendered scenes keep their existing audio.

To remove a location: open the Studio dock’s Locations row, open the location, then ⋯ → Remove from this series. This frees a slot in the 12-location series limit. If the app names unrendered scenes using it, detach that location in those scene editors first, then retry. Removing a location does not refund its drawing cost. Follow any additional message for published locations; do not assume a chat reply alone removed anything.
