Mix & Match Bundles

Template Type: Product

Mix & Match bundles are created as Shopify products, so they live on product pages.

Setup:

  1. Create or use a product template

  2. Add the Mix & Match Bundle app block

  3. Position below title/price area

  4. Assign your Mix & Match bundle products to this template

Why product templates?

  • The bundle has a product page URL

  • Customers expect product page behavior

  • Works with your existing product page layout

Pack Builder Bundles

Template Type: Product

Pack Builder bundles are also Shopify products with variants for each pack size.

Setup:

  1. Create or use a product template

  2. Add the Pack Builder app block

  3. Position prominently (the pack interface is the main focus)

  4. Assign your Pack Builder products to this template

Layout tips:

  • Pack Builder has a lot of UI (product grid, pack summary, etc.)

  • Consider wider layouts or full-width sections

  • Hide default variant selectors (Pack Builder handles pack size selection)

Collection Bundles

Template Type: Product OR Page

Collection Bundles are flexible—they can work on either product pages or standalone pages.

Option A: Product Template (Most Common)

The bundle is attached to a product, giving you:

  • Standard product page URL

  • Ability to use product features (SEO, reviews, etc.)

  • Consistent with other bundle types

Setup:

  1. Create or use a product template

  2. Add the Collection Bundle app block

  3. The block becomes the main content (shows all steps)

  4. Assign your Collection Bundle products to this template

Option B: Page Template

For standalone bundle experiences not tied to a product.

Use cases:

  • Landing pages for marketing campaigns

  • "Build Your Box" pages that aren't traditional products

  • When you want a custom URL like /pages/build-your-dinner

Setup:

  1. Create a page template

  2. Add the Collection Bundle app block

  3. Create a Shopify Page and assign this template

  4. The Collection Bundle block will display on that page

Using the Default Product Template

You can add bundle blocks to your default product template, but there are tradeoffs:

Pros:

  • Simple—no extra templates to manage

  • Bundle blocks only show on bundle products (smart detection)

Cons:

  • Default template may have elements you don't want on bundles

  • Less control over bundle-specific layout

  • May confuse the template structure

Best practice: Create dedicated templates for bundles unless you have a very simple store.

Template Organization Example

A store selling candles with different bundle options might have:

Regular candle products

Bundle

Mix & Match "Candle Trio" bundle

Pack Builder

"Build Your Candle Box" pack

Collection Bundle

"Seasonal Gift Set" step-by-step bundle

Checking Which Template a Product Uses

  1. Go to Products in Shopify admin

  2. Click the product

  3. Look in the right sidebar for Theme template

  4. The selected template is shown

Changing a Product's Template

  1. Go to Products in Shopify admin

  2. Click the product

  3. In the right sidebar, find Theme template

  4. Select the new template from the dropdown

  5. Click Save

Common Mistakes

Wrong block on wrong template

Adding the Pack Builder block to a template used by Mix & Match products won't work. Each bundle type needs its matching block.

Forgetting to assign the template

Creating a perfect bundle template but leaving products on the default template means the bundle won't display.

Adding blocks to the wrong page type

Adding product-specific blocks to homepage or collection templates won't show bundles properly.
