Multi-Location Inventory & Fulfillable Inventory

If you have multiple fulfillment locations (e.g., US warehouse and UK warehouse) and want products to show as "Sold Out" when they're not available at the customer's location, you need to enable Shopify's **Fulfillable Inventory** setting.

Updated yesterday

The Problem

By default, Shopify shows products as "in stock" if there's inventory at any location. This means:

  • A product with 0 units in the US but 5 units in the UK will show as "in stock" to US customers

  • Customers only see an error at checkout: "This product is not available for delivery to your location"

This affects both regular product pages AND bundles/pack builders.

The Solution: Enable Fulfillable Inventory

Step 1: Go to Shipping and Delivery Settings

In your Shopify Admin, navigate to: Settings → Shipping and delivery

Step 2: Find the Fulfillable Inventory Link

Look for the text "Manage fulfillable inventory and split shipping settings" - this is a link, though it doesn't look like one.

Step 3: Enable the Setting

Click the link to open the Fulfillable Inventory popup. Check the box for "Show only fulfillable inventory".

This setting means:

"Customers will see products in stock based on inventory available at fulfillment locations that deliver to their shipping zone"

Step 4: Save

Click Save to apply the changes.

What This Does

Once enabled:

  • Products will show as "Sold Out" if there's no inventory at locations that can ship to the customer

  • Pack Builder will correctly show items as unavailable

  • Customers won't be able to add unavailable items to their cart

  • No more checkout errors for items that can't be delivered

Requirements

For this to work correctly, you also need:

  1. Multiple locations set up in Settings → Locations

  2. Shipping zones configured for each location (Settings → Shipping and delivery → General shipping rates)

  3. Markets configured if selling internationally (Settings → Markets)

Troubleshooting

Products still showing as in stock?

  • Clear your browser cache or test in an incognito window

  • Verify the setting is saved (it should show the checkbox as checked)

  • Check that your shipping zones are correctly configured for each location

Need to test different locations?

  • Use your store's country/region selector to switch markets

  • Or use a VPN to simulate customers from different countries
